History:
The seed of Goose Creek Education Federation sprouted roots in 1983 as Goose Creek Federation of Teachers/PEG on the heels of a meeting with John Cole and eight Goose Creek Consolidated ISD teachers with a common interest in organizing a local TFT chapter. Ronald Morris took the helm as the first elected president of the newly formed GCFT/Professional Educators Group of AFT/TFT.
In 1998, GCFT/PEG became GCFT Organizing Committee and went about the process of becoming a chartered local. A membership vote in 1999 approved the application for GCFT to become an AFT chartered local, and in the fall of 1999, GCFT officially chartered as Goose Creek Federation of Teachers and Support Personnel (AFT Local 6093).
Goose Creek Federation of Teachers and Support Personnel began negotiations with officers of Baytown Education Association (Texas State Teacher Association affiliate) in the spring of 2000 about a possible merger of the two organizations. Later that summer, the membership of both organizations united as Goose Creek Education Federation with merger approval from TFT/AFT and TSTA/NEA in 2001.
GCEF continues its role as the dominant voice for education workers in Baytown. Our motto, United We Can!, expresses our commitment to uniting education workers, securing good salaries, benefits, and working conditions, and to perpetuating workplace dignity.
